    Responsibilities

    This senior level health and safety position reports to the site mill manager and has overall HS responsibility for the Lewiston site, Clearwater Fiber Chipping site, and the Lower Columbia Reload Facility.  The position leads a team of site-based HS professionals as well as provides oversight for the site security team, contract fire department and contract on-site clinic.

     

    Clearwater paper is focused on a proactive, risk based EHS Management system, which we call EHS Excellence.  The Lewiston Sr Manager will lead implementation of this process, which includes a focus on the prevention of SIF incidents.

    • Provides leadership and safety and health technical expertise; advises site management on loss control and risk reduction strategies.
    • Provides direction and oversight over site for site security team, contract fire department and contract site clinic.
    • Lead the development and overall execution of the annual, site-based HS Plan.
    • Provides initial response and site coordination to all health and safety  federal and/or state regulatory agency inquiries or inspections. 
    • Conducts risk assessments and accident/incident investigations to obtain the root cause and ensures corrective actions are implemented to prevent reoccurrence.
    • Leads efforts to enhance employee involvement in HS and assumes leadership role in developing positive work environment.
    • Mentors safety staff and ensures their professional development.
    • Track and provide insight into commons issues, trends, problems, and opportunities to reduce losses and incident costs:  maintain information and performance measurement systems to ensure that lose information is tracked and effectively communicated.
    • Develop, review and revise safety and health policies and practice to ensure they are current and appropriate.
    • Ensures audits and assessments are completed to maintain compliance with the OSHA VPP requirements.
    • Maintains an understanding of all site industrial processes, chemicals and by-products in order to perform duties associated with process safety management, hazardous waste and emergency response, industrial hygiene and chemical approval.
    • Overall leadership for the site’s workers compensation process including engaging with on-site clinic, physicians and management to ensure employees receive proper medical treatment for work related injuries in a manner that allows them to return to work promptly.
    • Lead the site’s health and safety annual training process including delivery of content. 

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety or related field.
    • Minimum of ten years' experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
    • Certified Safety Professional preferred.
    • Experience in implementing or assessing safety management systems such as OHSAS 18001 or OSHA VPP preferred.
    • Supervisory experience preferred.
    • Thorough knowledge of local, state and federal EHS regulations.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
    • Must be results oriented and capable of driving the EHS process at a complex site.
    • Must be able to work collaboratively in a union environment.
    • Ability to build an effect team, develop and maintain positive working relationship and articulate objectives.
    • Ability to maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality and sensitive information.
    • Operating knowledge of industrial hygiene equipment.
