  • Overview

    This position supports sourcing of indirect spend categories that are intermediate to high in complexity.  Categories include but are not limited, travel, leasing, print services, contingent labor, office supplies, and utilities including payment monitoring and renewable energy credits.  Additionally this position is responsible for successfully managing multiple product certifications including Chain of Custody and Fiber sourcing.


    Category Management

    • Drives purchasing strategy for spend categories
    • Analyses and selects suppliers with consideration for cost, quality and reliability
    • Reviews and uses market trend information to develop spend category recommendations which match company goals and strategy
    • Responsible for price analysis, vendor selection, and recommendations for travel and indirect spend categories as assigned
    • Act as administrator for supplier databases and reporting systems including employee set up and training, data management and processing data requests


    Vendor Relations

    • Builds vendor relations through meeting participation and regular communication regarding current business needs and opportunities for improvement
    • Monitor supplier performance by ensuring that services are provided as 
    • Maintains appropriate files and records of meetings with suppliers to ensure company requirements are met and that supplier is aware of their performance
    • Establish and build strong internal relationships with key stakeholders to clearly understand material and service requirements
    • Understand contract requirements, ensures contract compliance, and monitors local contractual relationships for defined spend


    Process / Product Knowledge

    • JDE system purchasing with an understanding of cross functional system interfaces 
    • Act as a liaison between suppliers and involved departments to resolve procurement related problems
    • Assist internal and external customers by interpreting laws, policy, codes, and regulations pertaining to purchasing
    • Understand and champion Corporate policies and procedures
    • Complete RFP/RFQ’s, purchase requests and contract renewals 
    • In depth understanding of travel management including duty of care, corporate travel policies, and industry best practices
    • In depth understanding of product certification, including experience with chain of custody certification, development of policies and procedures which meet third party standards, training of effective staff and successful audit completion
    • Designs and implements site practices that comply with corporate guidelines


    Project Management

    • Engages and leads cross functional groups through process improvement and change initiatives
    • Plans and implements strategic purchasing plans company wide
    • Develop and present fact-based analysis to leadership for decision making
    • Gathers feedback from internal stakeholders, identifies concerns and drives corrective action measures with suppliers
    • Incorporate procurement methodologies into strategic project initiatives working to improve project design and minimize duration and cost


    Required education and related experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics or related field or the equivalent combination of training and experience

    • Three to five years of experience under general supervision in purchasing, inventory control, raw material planning and maintaining on-going vendor relations required

    • Supply chain certification or Master’s degree in related field may be substituted for 2 years of experience

     Skills and Abilities (technical/professional skills, expertise and qualifications):

    • Strong computer skills required including experience using Excel spreadsheets. Experience using JD Edwards software preferred.
    • Ability to work on non-routine purchases that require analysis to arrive at best decision.
    • Must have strong professional communication, planning and organizational skills. 
    • General knowledge of plant operations is required.

    Illustrative Essential Functions

    • Occasional exposure to manufacturing machines and areas, shipping and warehousing areas
    • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment in the manufacturing environment
    • Some mental, visual and physical fatigue from computer terminal use
    • Extended periods of sitting
    • Occasional travel is required
