Overview

Responsible for the management of mill warehouse/distribution functions with focus on implementing best practices, continuous improvement, talent development, cost reduction and enhanced customer service. Responsible for overseeing development strategies, operational planning, financial planning, inventory management, business interfaces, communication, and performance analysis for mill distribution operations. Ensure optimal availability and productive utilization of our inventory across all channels, providing direction on inventory and effective balancing of supply availability to enable Sales opportunities and responsive solutions to changes in demand.

Responsibilities

Leadership/Management

  • P&L responsibility for manufacturing warehouse site operations 
  • Provide direction for development of warehouse site leaders and their distribution staff
  • Create a collaborative high performing environment resulting in an engaged and motivated work force
  • Partner with corporate EH&S team to develop and implement world class safety programs that will improve year-over-year safety performance    
  • Provides support for Customer Service and Sales to achieve or exceed customers’ service expectations  
  • Support execution of facility AIB (American Institute for Baking), HAACP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and inventory audits
  • Interface with mill site leadership, mill production leaders and planning/scheduling function to ensure cross functional communication between the warehouse and the mill so all functions have visibility to upcoming orders, in-bounds, out-bounds etc.
  • Assess and provide guidance on product flow, inventory levels
  • Lead budget management, financial analysis, development of reporting standards and KPI/performance measurement communication that provides visibility and guidance for on-site tactical operations team and business stakeholders
  • P/L budget development and expense execution responsibilities. Conduct P/L reviews monthly with the Director of Warehouse Operations and with broader Supply Chain team
  • Conduct quarterly business review of the various mill warehouse operations as needed 
  • Support 3PL warehouse leader with negotiation of rates and in partnership with Director of Warehouse Operations on contractual terms for service provider relationships where new operations/programs are performed
  • Provide structural and tactical leadership for daily execution, strategic planning, cost saving initiatives, and overall management of the operation
  • Spearhead new, cutting edge strategic operations initiatives, support planning and prioritization of key strategies that support the business case for supply chain investment and change
  • Interface with Corporate Supply Chain (Distribution, Transportation, Planning, Production Scheduling and Customer Service) on implementing strategies and ensuring target service levels are achieved
  • Regular communication and interactions with Plant Manager, Department Managers,  Transportation Managers, and all levels of management to maintain operational excellence within the facility
  • Work towards harmonization of distribution processes and continuously implement improvements plans
  • Lead and manage operations in process modeling, service optimization and statistical analysis to validate new opportunities to improve performance, and prescribe actionable recommendations to leverage those opportunities
  • Provide high levels of customer satisfaction by driving continuous improvement, root cause analysis and risk mitigation

 

Operations

  • Responsible for Mill warehouse inventory process from conducting physicals, cycle counts and ensuring inventory accuracy for both raw materials and finished goods
  • Support mill service contracts and recommend changes as needed to provide cost savings and excellent service
  • Monitors distribution key performance indicators (KPI) to ensure goals are met
  • Analyze throughput information, capacity planning and flow through
  • Analyze operations on a continuing basis and report necessary improvements to the Director of Warehouse Operations in a timely manner
  • Ensure operating efficiencies across all functions of the distribution center operations
  • Be accountable for achieving prescribed company objectives in regards to safety, cost, productivity, customer service and continuous improvement  
  • Ensure 100% compliance with OSHA Standards, as well as, state and local regulatory requirements
  • Help ensure a culture of safety throughout the company by following company safety policies and procedures
  • Monitor distribution center safety, physical security and operational metrics on a daily, weekly and monthly basis

Qualifications

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field preferred
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in leadership in the Warehousing and Distribution industry 
  • Minimum 7 years supervisory experience
  • Experience designing, developing project specification for WMS and RF technology
  • P & L management required
  • Experience with Warehouse automation a plus
  • Continuous improvement and training experience required
  • Proven track record of cost reduction and productivity gains

Skills/Abilities

  • Strong understanding of financial concepts related to project evaluation, budget management, and return on investment
  • Must have understanding of all aspects of distribution warehouse operations
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven leadership skills including organizational, planning, problem solving and ability to multi-task
  • Experience implementing continuous improvement programs
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive employee and customer relationships
  • Inventory control management
  • Workflow and process driven
  • Develop, implement, and manage KPI’s
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt preferred

  • On call and available to work as required by the business
  • Office environment as well as mill – hot, dusty, humid
